MetaWealth, a European real estate investment platform co-founded by Michael Topolinski, announces €110 million investment in autonomous energy storage projects at scale.
The first investment in this program, worth €22 million, aims to develop a total capacity of 130 MWh. The project includes a 100 MWh stand-alone storage system in Dumbrava, Neamț County, located close to the grid infrastructure and renewable generation capacities, as well as 30 MWh storage units installed in co-location at several points connected to the existing electricity grid.
This includes a 100 MWh stand-alone battery system in Dumbrava, Neamț County, located close to existing grid infrastructure and renewable generation capacity, as well as 30 MWh of colocated storage to be installed in several locations connected to the existing electricity grid.
The first 30 MWh will become operational in the third quarter of 2026, and the full 130 MWh capacity will be commissioned by the fourth quarter of 2026.
MetaWealth said these projects form the basis of a long-term strategy to develop a Romanian energy storage platform, with plans to develop an additional capacity of around 650 MWh in several locations, totaling €110 million.
„Energy storage in battery systems has evolved from an ancillary technology to essential grid infrastructure”said Richard McLaughlin-Duane, Director of Origination and Structuring at MetaWealth. „In markets like Romania, renewable energy production has grown faster than system flexibility. This creates volatility, but also a clear argument in favor of investments in storage systems, when projects are built to institutional standards, with appropriate siting, grid access and execution discipline from day one.”
Since its launch in 2023, MetaWealth has expanded into several European markets, increased the number of assets under management and introduced regulated investment structures, including ISIN-identified listed bonds issued by Luxembourg securitization vehicles.
The platform serves over 1,400 investors in 28 countries.
