In 2025, Germany produced around 1.22 million all-electric vehicles, an increase of 15% from the previous year. According to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), electric cars accounted for 291TPTP3T of the country's total car production, meaning that more than one in four cars produced were electric.
Total car production in Germany reached 4.15 million units. In addition to battery electric vehicles (BEVs), factories also produced around 450,000 plug-in hybrids. Together, BEVs and PHEVs totaled 1.67 million cars, or 401TPTP3T of total production, according to Tarantas News.
Germany produces electric vehicles for a wide range of brands, including Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Porsche, Ford and Tesla, although the companies do not disclose exact production figures by model.
By the end of the year, Germany had become the world's second largest producer of electric vehicles after China. The VDA emphasizes that sustainable growth in electromobility requires the development of charging infrastructure, modernization of energy grids and reduction of electricity costs.
In 2026, electric vehicle production is expected to increase by 6% to 1.76 million units. However, some key new models for 2026 will be produced by German conglomerates abroad.
