Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that by the end of the month, a new regulation regarding connection to electricity grids will be adopted, drawing attention to the fact that „less than 10%” of the projects for which technical connection approvals (ATR) have been issued have actually advanced, while the remaining 90%„are speculative in nature,” according to Hotnews.
According to the Prime Minister, by this spring, ATRs had been issued for projects totaling 80,000 megawatts, even though the Romanian economy only needs about 9,000 megawatts of daily power.
„The vast majority of these technical connection approvals were issued in the last three years... We note that less than 10% of them have progressed. This means that 90% of these projects are speculative in nature. Those who obtained these projects do not intend to develop them, but rather to sell them. They would not be viable anyway, because, far exceeding our consumption, there is no one to sell this hypothetical energy to. Perhaps we could even supply Central Europe, but in effect, they block the access of serious investors who have financing and cannot connect,” stated Ilie Bolojan.
Bolojan specified that a debate on this topic will take place next week, and the Government will formulate a series of proposals to the Energy Regulatory Authority to be included in the new regulation.
