JTI, a leading company in the field of tobacco and nicotine products, is investing about 300 million euros to build a new factory in Ștefăneștii de Jos, Ilfov county, to be completed in 2027, according to data presented on Thursday at a press conference by company representatives, according to Agerpres.
„This is one of the largest investments made by JTI in Romania. It reflects our long-term confidence in the country, its infrastructure and the quality of its workforce. Romania is a key market for our company, being an important industrial hub in Europe. Today, nearly 1,600 employees work for JTI in Romania, in the factory, headquarters, sales offices and the Global IT Hub, and their professionalism and dedication are among our strengths”, said Gabriella Offeddu, Managing Director of JTI Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria.
According to a company statement, in 2025, JTI contributed more than €1.4 billion to Romania's state budget through excise duties, VAT and other taxes and contributions.
„More than 70% of the production made in Romania is exported to about 70 markets worldwide. Our current plant ranks among the top performing JTI facilities, based on operational excellence and continuous improvement. This demonstrates the expertise, reliability and performance of our teams. The new factory will be approximately 70,000 square meters and will integrate advanced equipment and technologies, as well as highly efficient production processes, opening up opportunities for future development”said Klaus-Walter Thul, Factory lead JTI Romania.
According to him, the plant is designed to run on 100% renewable energy. The new plant will also include extensive waste management capabilities and its own water treatment plant.
The new facility, scheduled to be completed in 2027, will replace the current production unit in Bucharest, which is operating under limited space. The transition to the new location will be phased to ensure production continuity.
