A total of 13 organizations from the European digital identity ecosystem - wallet providers, certification authorities and technology developers - participated in Bucharest in an interoperability exercise to test the European digital identity wallet, reports technology developer certSIGN.
„During the tests, participants verified, under real-life conditions, the ability of the systems to communicate and work in an integrated way, an essential step for the large-scale implementation of the European digital identity. The Romanian technology company certSIGN participated in the tests with its own sandbox (test environment), a complete infrastructure including the technical solution for EUDI Wallet, digital identity issuance through its proprietary certME solution, issuance and verification of qualified digital attributes, strong authentication and electronic signature through CSC API v2.2. The certSIGN solutions were tested to verify correct communication with systems developed by other European companies, demonstrating that the Romanian trust infrastructure is compatible and ready for the European ecosystem. The results of the exercise highlight concrete progress towards a unified digital ecosystem that will enable citizens to manage their identity and data in a secure, simple and transparent way”, reads the press release.
The testing exercise involved 13 organizations from the European digital identity ecosystem, ranging from wallet providers and certification authorities to technology developers.
According to the source, 44 interoperability tests were carried out over the two days, of which 36 were successfully completed.
”Tests have validated that the independent implementations within the ecosystem can successfully interoperate in real signature scenarios and demonstrate that the EUDI Wallet ecosystem is ready to facilitate access to digital identification services”, notes the company, according to Agerpres.
Romania hosted, on March 17-18, 2026, an important interoperability exercise dedicated to the European Digital Identity Wallet - CSC Interoperability Event EUDI Wallet 2026.
The event was organized by the Cloud Signature Consortium (CSC), with the support of certSIGN, and brought together digital wallet vendors, certification authorities and technology developers from across the European Union (EU).
Recently, Corneliu Mănescu, Deputy Director General of the Directorate General for Electronic Communications, Digitalization Policies and Strategies of the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT), stated at the Cybersecurity Forum conference that Romania must implement at least one e-wallet tool by the end of 2026.
Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 stipulates that EU Member States must, by the end of 2026 at the latest, provide citizens and residents with at least one certified European digital wallet (EUDIW) - a solution that must meet the same technical and security requirements across Europe.
The Cloud Signature Consortium is an international group of industry, government and academic organizations dedicated to promoting the standardization of secure and compliant electronic signatures in the cloud.
