Volkswagen has overtaken Tesla in the number of electric car sales in Europe in 2025. <\/strong>The German automaker saw an increase of 56% from 2024, while Tesla's sales fell by nearly 30%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After several years of Tesla topping electric car sales in Europe, the tables have turned in 2025. According to a new report from Data Force, Volkswagen has climbed to the top spot in sales of electric cars in the Old Continent, overtaking the American brand<\/strong>, writes Automarket<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of last year, Volkswagen sold 274,417 electric cars on the continent, 56% more than it did in 2024. Tesla, on the other hand, sold 238,765 electric cars, down 271TP33T from 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even with this drop in sales, Tesla can still boast the Model Y, which remains the best-selling electric model in Europe. Last year 151,331 copies of the American model were sold. Skoda Elroq comes a distant second with 94,106 units sold. The podium is completed by another Tesla model, namely the Model 3, which found 86,261 new customers in Europe in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Volkswagen Group was helped by the fact that 5 of the top 10 electric models sold in Europe are produced by the German group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
