Renalfa Power Clusters has successfully completed the acquisition of two renewable projects in Romania. The first asset, Horia 2, is a photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 365 MWp. The second is a photovoltaic plant with an independent BESS in Arad, with 400 MW\/800 MWh, both located in the west of the country, in Arad county. The new owner intends to combine and redesign the projects into a single energy cluster and expand the installed capacity of both photovoltaic and BESS in the near future. Both acquired projects are fully permitted, at an advanced stage of development, with commercial launch expected in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Renalfa Power Clusters will expand the Horia \u2013 Arad energy cluster in two stages. In the first expansion, the solar capacity will be increased to 568 MWp, and the BESS capacity will grow to 669 MW \/ 2,000 MWh. The second phase will add another advanced independent BESS of 400 MW \/ 1,608 MWh, potentially in combination with more photovoltaic plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201eAfter the construction is completed, the Horia-Arad cluster will pioneer three deep-tech innovations: a hybrid storage plan with dual lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery chemistry, a grid-forming inverter technology, and a proprietary AI-based dispatch and control platform. Together, these will transform the expanded cluster into a so-called \u00abSovereign Grid Anchor,\u00bb capable of providing grid services previously exclusive to thermal power plants,\u201d said Ivo Prokopiev, CEO of Renalfa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the first acquisition by Renalfa Power Clusters, a newly formed joint venture between the clean energy and e-mobility investment group Renalfa Solapro Group, based in Vienna, and the investment management company RGREEN INVEST, based in Paris, through its INFRAGREEN equity funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new joint venture, targeting Poland and Romania as its main markets, builds on the scale and success of the partners' first joint venture, Renalfa IPP. In less than five years, Renalfa IPP has become one of the leading investors and operators in Europe of utility-scale hybrid assets equipped with long-duration storage (BESS).
