Rompetrol Energy, the operator of the cogeneration plant on the Petromidia platform, achieved solid operational results between December 30, 2025, and April 30, 2026, successfully supporting the technological processes of the largest refinery in the country \u2013 Petromidia N\u0103vodari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plant, which has passed all necessary tests and certifications for continuous operation, produced approximately 180,000 MWh of electricity in the first four months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Approximately 25% of the total was delivered to the National Power System, confirming its important role in balancing electricity production and distribution in the Dobrogea region. The value of the energy transferred to the system exceeded $6 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By integrating state-of-the-art equipment and through the coordinated operation of the entire system, we ensure operation at the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability.<\/em>\u201d,\" said Boris Bucur, General Director of Rompetrol Energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The two groups (turbines together with steam boilers) in the plant's configuration also produced 300,000 tons of process steam, sufficient quantities to support the thermal and mechanical processes specific to the Petromidia refinery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The power plant also has the capability to operate in an islanded mode, without direct dependence on the National Energy System, in the event of grid disturbances. This provides an added layer of safety for the operational processes at the Petromidia refinery. Recently, the power plant was involved in an exercise that tested this capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The integration of the cogeneration plant reduces Petromidia refinery's energy dependence, optimizes costs, and provides greater control over resources, with a potential positive effect on the financial performance of KMG International Group (Rompetrol).<\/p>\n\n\n\n We remind you that, as of December 30, 2025, Rompetrol Energy became the exclusive operator of the power plant, ensuring a stable electricity flow for the N\u0103vodari platform, in the range of 60\u201380 MWh, and supplying up to 180 tons of industrial steam per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Commissioning tests and technical checks were carried out between February and December 2025. During this period, the two gas turbines, the measurement and control systems, the natural gas and refinery gas supply systems, and the steam circuits for the refinery were validated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Electricity production began last spring with the synchronization of the SGT-750 turbines with the National Energy System, and from autumn the plant was able to supply both electricity and steam simultaneously, after the waste heat boilers came online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In October and December, over 28 days, the endurance test was carried out \u2013 the final and most complex step before acceptance \u2013 which confirmed the stable operation of the plant under real operating conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The SGT-750 turbines, the most important equipment installed, use gaseous fuel (a mixture of natural gas and refinery gas) and generate approximately 39 MWh of electricity each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The use of Siemens SGT-750 gas turbines represents a first for Romania's energy sector, with these units recognized for their high efficiency, operational flexibility, and reliability in industrial operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rompetrol Energy was established in 2012 to develop and operate the cogeneration plant, a project that represented one of the priority directions supported by the Kazakh-Romanian Energy Investment Fund (KREIF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n This project confirms KMG International's (Rompetrol) commitment to remaining a strategic investor in Romania, with a direct contribution to the modernization of the energy sector and support for the national economy.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Rompetrol Energy, operatorul centralei de cogenerare de pe platforma Petromidia, a \u00eenregistrat rezultate opera\u021bionale solide \u00een perioada 30 decembrie 2025 \u2013 30 aprilie 2026, reu\u0219ind s\u0103 sus\u021bin\u0103 procesele tehnologice ale celei mai mari rafin\u0103rii din \u021bar\u0103 \u2013 Petromidia N\u0103vodari.
