The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) announces that it will start nationwide controls on the entire distribution chain, from importers and warehousekeepers to fuel retailers, in the context of rising prices. Inspectors are checking for suspected tax fraud and practices that may affect the fairness of the market, and if they find speculative practices, they will refer the matter to the relevant institutions.

”In the context of the recent fuel price increases, the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) has started a series of controls at national level to prevent and combat possible fiscal non-compliance practices against the background of the evolution of fuel market prices”, reads a statement from ANAF.

The actions target the whole supply chain, from importers and warehousekeepers to final traders, with the aim of identifying economic operators acting to create tax advantages in the current context by artificially increasing purchase/production costs.

The ANAF inspectors verify situations where there are suspicions of tax fraud associated with practices that may affect the fairness of the market. In cases where the facts found are likely to affect fair competition or consumer interests through speculative practices, the competent state institutions will be notified. The purpose of ANAF's actions is to ensure tax compliance and a fair competitive environment, as a prerequisite for a stabilization of the fuel market during this period.
