ENERGY CAPITAL GROUP, part of the GÜRİŞ group, one of Turkey's largest investment groups, has begun testing a storage capacity of 196,768 MWh in Iaz, Caraș-Severin. The investment was completed in 7 months and is the only stand-alone storage project financed by the PNRR that will be completed by the deadline of 06/30/2026, out of a total of 13 projects nationwide.

Representatives from Transelectrica, the Obreja City Hall, and the State Inspectorate for Construction Caraș-Severin attended the event, along with the contractor, Electroechipament Industrial SRL, who carried out the final acceptance of the connection works for one of Romania's most significant energy storage projects. In the coming period, the facility will enter the technological testing phase.

By the end of April 2026, the company's management aims to obtain the Commercial Exploitation License from the National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE), a stage that will allow the full operationalization of the plant.

„I would like to thank GÜRİŞ from Turkey for their trust and courage to invest in Romania, but equally all the specialists from Transelectrica, who were partners in the realization of this project. Without their active involvement and without the effort, professionalism, and mobilization of Electroechipament Industrial SRL, which carried out the design and execution of the connection works in a record time of seven months, we would not have been able to achieve this very important objective for Romania,” declared Laura Ciuhu, CEO of Lara Business Energy and project manager.

In turn, Ion Rusalin Pascotă, the mayor of Obreja commune, emphasized the importance of the investment for the local community:
„We managed to support an investment of over 50 million euros in our locality. What has been achieved in the locality of Iaz, starting on August 1st, when work began on this strategic project for Romania, and up to the present, is, in my opinion, unique in Romania.

The organization, execution, and involvement of public and local authorities in supporting this project can serve as an example for future major investments. This was made possible by rigorous planning, efficient coordination, and the involvement of experienced specialists dedicated to this project.”

Due to its size, accelerated pace of implementation, and strategic relevance to the national energy system, the Iaz project represents an important milestone for the development of modern energy storage infrastructure in Romania and for strengthening the country's energy security.
