Starting Thursday, Romanian entrepreneurs have access to the official online platform of the SME Eco-Tech program. They can create accounts with a username and password to apply for SME funding, supported by Swiss funds, starting May 26, 2026, according to StartUpCafe.

In order to participate in the SME ECO-TECH funding program, applicants must complete the „preliminary stage of creating a user profile and uploading a valid electronic identification certificate on the electronic platform dedicated to the program's implementation” – the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT), which manages the platform and the program, officially informed on Thursday.

For this purpose, the electronic platform https://sme-ecotech.gov.ro „will be accessible, only for this stage, starting today, 05.21.2026, and will remain open until the end of the submission period,” MEDAT points out.

The submission period for the legal entities (SME) funding application forms will be open and active from May 26, 2026, 10:00 AM to June 24, 2026, 8:00 PM. Funding is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Ce este SME Eco-Tech

It's about a financing instrument dedicated to the green and digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises in Romania's manufacturing industry, funded by Switzerland.

The program is funded by the second Swiss grant awarded to Romania under the Swiss-Romanian Cooperation Program (PCER 2), with a total budget of 288,843,072 RON (54 million CHF), of which 70% represents the Swiss Confederation’s contribution.

Eligible Romanian companies will be able to access a combination of financial assistance: a non-repayable grant of up to 40% of the investment amount (but not exceeding 267,240 lei) and a bank loan of at least 60%, taken out from one of the partner banks selected by MEDAT. The minimum project value is 668,100 lei.

Financed investment categories include: renewable energy generation equipment — photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, heat pumps, geothermal installations; waste collection, recycling, and reuse technologies; digital systems for energy efficiency and resource monitoring; digital package — website, IT equipment, software, electronic signature; other technological equipment necessary for production activity.

Mandatory requirement: At least 40% of the eligible expenses for each project must consist of investments in green or digital equipment.
