„We are seeing a huge increase in the number of prosumers who are installing storage capacity,” said the vice-president of the National Energy Regulatory Authority, Gabriel Andronache, quoted by Hotnews.

„We found that in December we reached the 297,000 prosumers threshold and one thing that is very, very encouraging: we have 66,000 prosumers who have installed capacity in storage. We see a very big increase in the number of those who are prosumers and are installing storage capacity,” Andronache said at the Energy Focus conference.

He said that in December, 7,000 prosumers had installed production capacity and 10,000 prosumers had installed storage batteries.

„Consumers have realized that the most important thing is to install storage capacity, especially since the price of batteries has dropped by 20% compared to 13 years ago”, continued the ANRE representative.

The total capacity of prosumers has reached 3,400 MW, similar to that of the large photovoltaic parks in Romania, and storage capacities are 600 MW, the same as for the large parks.

Consumers will pay imbalances for the energy delivered to the grid. For prosumers, it will become much more cost-effective to install batteries and consume at home as much energy produced by photovoltaic panels as possible, rather than delivering it to the grid. This is because legislation in the prosumers' sector will change and they will have to pay for the imbalances they cause to the energy system by feeding energy into the grid.

Legislation governing the activities of prosumers in Romania will be radically changed, according to a draft emergency ordinance initiated by the Ministry of Energy.
