Greenvolt Next Romania, part of the Greenvolt Group, has signed a new agreement with Sam Mills for the development and operation of a photovoltaic self-consumption project, with a capacity of over 2 MW, integrated with a 10.03 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The investment value exceeds 2.6 million euros and marks the expansion of the partnership between the two companies, bringing the total value of renewable energy solutions implemented for the Satu Mare group to over 2.8 million euros.
Developed under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the project enables Sam Mills—one of the leading players in the milling industry, with exports to 35 countries—to access green energy without an initial investment, while benefiting from stable and predictable costs. With the integration of the new system, the company is expected to achieve a level of energy self-sufficiency of over 30% across its operations and significantly reduce its exposure to energy market volatility in an increasingly uncertain environment.
The solution includes a 2.16 MW photovoltaic system, composed of 3,660 panels, along with a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 10.03 MWh. Thus, surplus energy produced during periods of low consumption can be stored and used later, depending on operational needs. The integration of the storage system contributes to optimizing consumption and to a more efficient correlation between energy production and the operational requirements of an industrial unit operating on a continuous basis.
The project complements an already operational first installation, a 456 kWp ground-mounted system (780 panels), developed based on a 5-year PPA – which is estimated to generate savings of over 100,000 euros for Sam Mills during the contract.
„The partnership with Sam Mills reflects the accelerated pace at which industrial companies in the Northwest region are adopting local energy production solutions. For Greenvolt Next, this project demonstrates our ability to develop and implement solutions tailored to customers' real consumption, in a context where cost predictability is becoming increasingly important.” stated Filipe Dias, Country Manager Greenvolt Next Romania.
„Green energy and cost predictability are essential, especially in the current geopolitical context and an increasingly volatile energy market, as they offer us greater stability and better cost control. At the same time, sustainability is becoming increasingly important as we move towards more sustainable products and collaborate with partners actively seeking such solutions. The integration of storage systems plays a significant role in optimizing energy consumption, especially given that our operations run in three shifts, helping to cover a portion of our energy needs during the night. I believe the future is not just about producing energy, but also about managing it more intelligently.” transmitted Cristian Babiciu, CEO of Sam Mills.
This project consolidates Greenvolt Next's presence in Romania, particularly in the North-West region, where the company currently operates 22 projects with a total installed capacity of 7.2 MW. Together, these contribute to an estimated annual reduction of 5,800 tons of CO2.
