According to KBA data, approximately 71,000 electric cars were registered last month in Germany, an increase from 43,000 units in February. These types of cars represented 24%of total registrations in March, up from 22%in February, and 16.8% in March of last year, according to Forbes.

In total, in March 2026, 294,161 new passenger cars were registered in Germany, an increase of 16% compared to the same month of the previous year. This led to a total increase in registrations of 5.2% for the first quarter.

The significant increase in electric car registrations comes as the price of oil has skyrocketed in recent weeks due to the war in Iran, leading to higher bills for drivers.

The price of a liter of diesel fuel reached a new historic high in Germany on Monday at noon, with diesel costing 2.487 euros/liter and E10 gasoline costing 2.235 euros/liter, according to the German Automobile Club (ADAC).
