The IT&C sector remains one of the most stable and performing branches of the local economy. Companies have continued to invest, employ and export and the contribution to GDP remains high. 6.67% of GDP is the direct IT&C contribution, down slightly from 2023 (6.8%), of which IT accounts for 5.01%.

However, the data show a change of pace: growth is slower than in previous years. The general economic backdrop and recent tax changes are starting to weigh on companies' growth plans, writes TransilvaniaBusiness.

Industry representatives speak of a moment of transition: the sector still has high potential, but is increasingly dependent on the stability of public policies.

The IT&C industry continued to be a major contributor to Romania's economy in 2024, with a turnover of EUR 23.6 billion, exports on the rise. According to data from the ANIS industry survey, although the sector remains a pillar of the economy, there has been a moderation in the pace of growth, reflecting early signs of the impact of recent fiscal changes on the sector's performance.

„The data confirms that IT&C is one of the sectors driving the economy forward, not just through financial performance, but also through stability and resilience. The industry has continued to invest, hire and export, even in a more difficult operating environment. At the same time, the effects of the removal of the tax facility are starting to be felt and may influence future investment. The growth potential remains, provided that Romania assumes predictable and forward-looking public policies”, says Corina Vasile, Executive Director of ANIS.
