The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, announces investments of approximately 3.5 billion euros in the production and transportation of energy and natural gas, negotiated this week in Washington, following discussions with representatives of international financial institutions and high-ranking American officials.
”This week, I had high-level meetings with the World Bank, the U.S. administration, the Department of Energy, the U.S. EXIM Bank, the State Department, DFC, and MIGA/IFC to attract financing and partnerships for Romania's most important energy projects. For nuclear, we made concrete progress: financing of up to $3 billion for the modernization of Unit 1 at Cernavodă; ongoing discussions for the financing of Units 3 and 4, including with the U.S. EXIM Bank. I obtained direct support for the Black Sea projects, for gas transmission infrastructure, and for strengthening Romania's role in the region. In parallel, I secured financing of $495 million for the development of the gas transmission network and regional interconnection. Cernavodă Units 3 and 4 mean approximately 19,000 jobs and 33% nuclear energy in national production.”, wrote Bogdan Ivan on his official social media page.
In the same context, the Minister of Energy also announced other ongoing investments and measures.
„At the same time, we obtained the OFAC waiver for the Petrotel refinery until October 29, 2026. Petrotel ensures 21% of national production, and with the restart of the refinery, we can fully cover our gasoline needs, over 60% of diesel consumption, and an important part of aviation fuel consumption. All these efforts have a single goal: more stability, less dependence, and more predictable costs for Romanians.” , the Minister of Energy emphasized, as quoted by Agerpres.
A ministerial delegation led by the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, is participating this week in the spring meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Washington D.C., United States of America.
