The Minister of Transport, Ciprian Șerban, has announced that two bids have been submitted in the tender for the design and execution of the Fast Danube 2 project, which aims to revitalize the Romanian-Bulgarian sector of the Danube, 470 km long. The project is worth 170 million euro.

”Two bids were submitted today in the tender for the design and execution of Fast Danube 2, the strategic investment that will revitalize the 470 km-long Romanian-Bulgarian sector of the Danube. This is a clear signal that the market is responding to this major project, with an estimated value of around €170 million”, the Transport Minister said on Monday, quoted by News.ro.

Ciprian Șerban said that Fast Danube 2 will increase the navigation period from 280 to 340 days per year and will generate an estimated increase of 20% in the volume of goods transported on the river, directly contributing to the consolidation of river transport and regional economic development.

The project foresees: 110 km of dredged navigable channel; 9 spurs and 4 chevrons; 5.45 km of bank stabilization and the construction of an artificial island.

The next stage is the evaluation of the bids, and the minister says the contract is expected to be signed in July 2026 at the latest.

”We continue to invest in transport infrastructure and in exploiting the Danube's potential as a European logistics hub”the minister added.
