The Economic and Social Council on Wednesday gave an unfavorable opinion on the recently amended draft fuel ordinance.

The ESC opinion is binding, but only advisory, according to Hotnews. The ordinance is expected to be adopted at Thursday's meeting of the Bolojan Cabinet, as already announced by the Government. Following today's discussions in the Tripartite Council, the Ministry of Finance will make some changes which it will announce this evening. It will be adopted at the Government meeting on Thursday.

The package of government measures will be based on the principles of cost-sharing between the government, the private sector and citizens and the adoption of intervention solutions with minimal collateral effects on the market, transparent and easy to apply, the government said in a press release.

The largest trade union confederations in Romania boycotted Wednesday's talks with the Government and employers' organizations on the ordinance prepared by the Bolojan Cabinet to counter the rise in fuel prices. The union leaders, however, met with Sorin Grindeanu, president of the PSD party, which is asking the government to include excise tax cuts in the ordinance, without the agreement of the PNL.
