PPC Renewables Romania, the largest private investor in renewable energy in Romania, continues its hybrid capacity development strategy and adds a 13.5 MW | 27 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to the Topolog (Gebeleisis) wind farm. The project amounts to a total value of 29.8 million lei, of which about 4.9 million lei will be provided by European funding through the Modernization Fund.

The project continues PPC Renewables Romania's plan to expand its renewable energy portfolio with storage projects that can actively contribute to system stability through the predictable generation profile provided by battery electricity storage.

Located in the South-East Region, Topolog TAU, Tulcea County, the Topolog wind farm is composed of 11 turbines, five of which are 3 MW and six of 2 MW, with a total installed capacity of 27 MW. The technology used by these turbines allows them to operate even when the wind does not reach optimal values, although the Topolog region has a high potential for wind energy.

In addition to the development of the storage system, the project involves the construction of the necessary infrastructure elements, the development of the operating, access and fencing roads, the implementation of the safety lighting and monitoring systems, as well as the area set up for operation, maintenance and security and site organization.

The project is financed by the Modernization Fund - Support for investments in the development of electricity storage capacity (batteries) connected to an existing renewable energy plant. The investment totals 29.850.000,86 lei. The maximum amount provided from the Modernization Fund is 16.55% of the eligible expenditure, i.e. 4.940.122,05 RON, and the amount provided by PPC Renewables Romania is 24.909.878,81 RON.
