PPC Renewables Romania, the largest private investor in renewable energy in Romania, continues the development of its hybrid capacity portfolio and will build a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 60 MW | 120 MWh within the Zephyr 1 (CEE Târgușor) project. The total value of the project is 129.9 million lei, of which 14.36 million lei will be covered by European financing through the Modernization Fund.
The project continues PPC Renewables Romania's plan to expand its renewable energy portfolio with storage projects that can actively contribute to system stability through the predictable generation profile provided by battery electricity storage.
This is the third storage project announced by PPC Renewables Romania and marks the acceleration of the company's storage portfolio development. Within this year, PPC Renewables Romania plans to add new storage capacities and is rapidly advancing in this segment, alongside the expansion of renewable energy production, as it approaches the 2 GW threshold in installed capacity in Romania.
Situat în Regiunea Sud-Est, UAT Nicolae Bălcescu, județul Constanța, sistemul BESS va fi implementat în cadrul parcului eolian Zephyr 1 (CEE Târgușor) care însumează 52 de turbine cu o putere totală instalată de 120 MW. În aceeași zonă, cele două parcuri eoliene Târgușor și Nicolae Bălcescu Târgușor, cunoscute și ca Zephyr 1 și Zephyr 2, însumează 78 de turbine eoliene, cu o putere totală instalată de 180 MW.
In addition to developing the storage system, the project involves the construction of all necessary building and infrastructure elements, the development of access roads and pathways, the fencing of the site, the implementation of safety and monitoring lighting systems, as well as the arrangement of the area for operation, maintenance, and site organization.
Proiectul beneficiază de finanțare prin Fondul pentru Modernizare – Sprijinirea investițiilor în dezvoltarea capacităților de stocare a energiei electrice (baterii) conectate la o instalație existentă de producere a energiei din surse regenerabile. Investiția se ridică la o valoare totală de 129.926.844,35 lei. Valoarea maximă asigurată din Fondul pentru Modernizare este de 11,05% din cheltuielile eligibile, respectiv 14.360.696,06 lei, iar valoarea asigurată de PPC Renewables România este de 115.566.148,29 lei.
