The e-Mobility state aid scheme will include a new category of eligible expenses, namely investments in the production of energy from renewable sources and in storage systems, directly integrated with charging infrastructure, announced on Wednesday, on his social media page, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ciprian Șerban, quoted by Agerpres.
„We are preparing an essential amendment to the e-Mobility state aid scheme, through which we will introduce a new category of eligible expenses: investments in the production of energy from renewable sources and in storage systems, directly integrated with charging infrastructure. This initiative stems from a reality we can no longer ignore: in numerous areas, distribution grids are operating at their capacity limit and do not allow for sustained increases in power required for the development of high-capacity charging stations. Under these conditions, continuing development that is exclusively dependent on the grid actually means slowing down the transition to electric mobility. Through this amendment, we will reduce pressure on the grid, provide flexibility to beneficiaries, and enable the accelerated development of charging capacities where technical blockages currently exist.” Șerban wrote on Facebook.
According to the minister in charge, Romania needs solutions that work in practice, and the goal is to decarbonize the transport sector.
„At the same time, the intervention directly addresses the current economic context, marked by volatile energy prices, exacerbated by geopolitical developments and tensions in the Middle East. Integrating renewable energy production and storage into charging infrastructure projects means more predictable costs, operational resilience, and protection of long-term investments. It is not just a technical adjustment, but a strategic decision. Romania needs solutions that work in practice, and this change does exactly that. It removes blockages, optimizes resources, and concretely advances the decarbonization goal of the transport sector.” , the official pointed out.
The state aid scheme for the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure on the national network of highways, expressways, and national roads, „e-Mobility RO,” aims to develop a strategic network of fast and ultra-fast charging stations for electric vehicles, located on highways, expressways, and national roads managed by the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR).
The total budget allocated to this scheme is 299 million euros, with an average annual budget not exceeding 149.5 million euros within each competitive tendering procedure.
According to official data, in relation to the allocated budget, the maximum estimated number of beneficiaries is 25, and the maximum amount requested per beneficiary within all competitive tendering procedures cannot exceed 30 million euros.
The disbursement of state aid can be made until December 31, 2030, while the project implementation period cannot exceed June 30, 2030.
