The Romanian renewable energy equipment market is still dominated by the residential segment, but demand from the commercial and industrial sectors is growing rapidly. In an exclusive interview with IndustryNews.ro, Bogdan Duță, CEO of Amperium Romania, says that in the medium term, the C&I segment and utility projects will become dominant, driven by customer maturity and the need for energy efficiency.
What are the main competitive advantages of Amperium's portfolio manufacturers?
Amperium collaborates with global manufacturers, particularly from Germany and Asia, selected based on reliability and long-term performance. The advantages lie in technological quality and offered guarantees, as well as the ability to deliver integrated solutions – photovoltaic, storage, and energy management. Furthermore, technical and logistical support becomes an important criterion for customers in a market where the focus shifts from price to safety and predictability.
What does the current sales structure look like, and what changes do you observe in the market?
The residential segment continues to hold the largest share, supported by financing programs. However, in recent years, an accelerated growth of C&I projects has been observed, especially in the 50–300 kW range, along with increased interest in industrial applications and storage solutions. Against this backdrop, customers are becoming more attentive to efficiency and energy independence.
What impact have funding programs had on market development?
Prosumer programs have generated significant volumes and made technology more accessible. At the same time, they have also brought implementation pressures – deadlines, deliveries, and cash flow. Commercial and industrial projects are generally more stable and involve long-term decisions, offering higher value per project.
What role do storage systems play in purchasing decisions?
Energy storage is becoming increasingly important, transitioning from an optional add-on to an essential component. This evolution is tied to grid instability, rising energy prices, and grid injection limitations. In the C&I segment, batteries are already a key element for cost optimization.
What technologies do you think will become dominant in the coming years?
Integrated solutions combining energy production, storage, and management will become standard. Large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) will be increasingly used in industrial and utility projects, and smart energy management systems will play an increasingly important role, against the backdrop of the sector's digitization.
How do you see the evolution of the distribution market in Romania?
The market is moving towards integrated services and consolidation of players. Distributors can no longer remain just equipment suppliers, but must offer technical consulting and complete solutions. Long-term customer relationships become an important differentiator.
