Road, rail and air infrastructure remained the main priority of the Bihor county administration. In 2025, strategic works such as the second section of the Oradea Metropolitan Ring, between Oșorhei and Sânmartin, and the connecting ramp to the Sânmartin ring road were completed. Also last year, the Biharia ring road was put into service - the seventh ring road built by CJ Bihor in recent years, notes TransilvaniaBusiness.
Work on the Paleu-Biharia road is nearing completion, with the technical evaluations for acceptance under way. Also, the Oșorhei overpass, the first in a series of eight planned overpasses, has been completed and opened to traffic. Six others are under construction and a seventh, over Matei Corvin Street, is to be put out to tender as part of the Paleu-Oradea link.
A complex project was the rehabilitation of the Tinca-Salonta road, affected by overlapping water, sewage and utility relocation works.
„We accepted a slower pace to support local communities. It was a conscious decision”explained the President of the CJ.
For the mountainous area, the Padiș-Ic Ponor road has a designated builder and works will start this year. At the same time, CJ Bihor has finalized the procedure for the feasibility study for the North Ring Road of Oradea and announced the start of works on the Șumugiu-Mierlău road this summer.
Tram-Train, the project to redesign the county's mobility
One of the most ambitious projects is Tram-Train, the metropolitan transportation system that will connect Oradea with the peri-urban area. The project includes the electrification and rehabilitation of the Oradea-Cordău and Oradea-Toboliu railway sections, connections with the tram network, as well as the extension of the tram lines to Borș and Oradea Airport.
„A metropolitan bus station will be built in front of the station. From there, people will be able to reach Băile Felix, the industrial zone of Borș or the airport quickly”said Mircea Mălan.
The tender for the rolling stock has been launched and the works will follow in the near future.
Public buildings, education and social services
The year 2025 brought the completion of the future County Council headquarters, as well as the rehabilitation of the County Library, complemented by the development of three municipal libraries and the equipping of 26 more in the county. Three DGASPC buildings and Nucet Hospital are being rehabilitated.
Through PNRR, Bihor County Council has purchased 25 electric minibuses for the transportation of students.
„They're not Ford minibuses, but Mercedes, with a range of over 400 km, superior equipment and a market price set by auction”said the president of the CJ, in the context of the national debate on this issue.
