Romania exports more than ten billion euros in IT services every year, and the sector's contribution to the country's Gross Domestic Product is 8%, said Daniel Constantin, president of the Romanian Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (ARICE), at the Digital Innovation Summit Bucharest 2026 (DISB 2026), on Tuesday.

„I am here before you today and I am happy to be here from the position of a man who has been involved for a short time in attracting foreign investment, but also in balancing a trade balance that is in deficit for our country. I come before a sector that is among the few sectors with a trade balance surplus. The figures are good and promising, but I believe we can do more together. Romania exports over €10 billion in IT services every year. The trade surplus is approaching €7 billion in some years, which is gratifying, but I believe that our potential is growing. I think that everyone in Romania has noticed that the emphasis has been placed on this sector, which has proved its effectiveness over time. I also believe that universities have also played an important role and I am pleased to see that more than 7,000 students leave the universities every year”said Constantin, quoted by Agerpres.

According to the representative of ARICE, the volume of foreign direct investments in Romania amounted to eight billion euros in 2025.

„In the IT sector, we are facing a sector that generates 8% of Romania's Gross Domestic Product. Over 200,000 specialists are working in this sector today and we have over 200 software development centers in our country. From the Romanian Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade's point of view, it basically promotes the potential that we have in all sectors of activity. We are attracting foreign investment and I am happy to see that, if in 2024, the volume of foreign direct investment was somewhere around 5 billion euros, we have increased in 2025 to 8 billion. In the specific IT sector, we have attracted more than €5 billion of FDI in recent years. I also believe that by strengthening a country bid, by improving policies, I think we can attract more in this area, because we have potential, especially in the area of human resources. In terms of export promotion, in the previous year, our agency organized the participation of 250 companies in the sector in various international fairs and exhibitions”said Daniel Constantin.
