Hidroelectrica published yesterday 2025 annual report, a year characterized by difficult hydrological conditions, a document that underlines the soundness of the company's business model and its ability to deliver operational and investment performance, as well as notable financial results for shareholders and investors.
According to the data presented by the company, in the previous year, Hidroelectrica realized total investments of 781 million lei, up by 32% compared to 2024, representing the best year in terms of investment realization for the company. This record level of investments reflects the acceleration of the modernization, retrofitting and new generation capacity development programs, in line with the strategy to consolidate Hidroelectrica's position as the leader in renewable energy in Romania.
The investment performance in 2025 is all the more relevant as the year was marked by the most difficult hydrological conditions in recent history, with the first nine months characterized by low hydraulicity that significantly limited production capacity. In this context, hydro production decreased by 14% compared to 2024, and 2025 recorded the lowest hydro production in Romania's history.
Despite these conditions, Hidroelectrica recorded solid financial results, confirming the resilience of its business and management model. Thus, the company reports revenues of RON 9.6 billion, up by 5% compared to the previous year, as well as a consolidated net profit of RON 3.37 billion, a result achieved in a year of reduced production and difficult market conditions. The reported figures put Hidroelectrica in first place among the most profitable Romanian companies.
The financial results exceeded budget expectations, with net profit being 10% above the rectified budget, on the back of a strong rebound in Q4.
Also, the company's net margin amounted to 35%, a level that places Hidroelectrica still among the most profitable companies in Romania, confirming the company's operational efficiency and financial discipline.
„The year 2025 was one of the most difficult from a hydrological point of view, but the results obtained confirm that we have a solid business model, as well as the capacity of the Hidroelectrica team to manage challenges and perform in complex conditions. The recovery of results in the latter part of the year was due to a very careful management of the water resource, coupled with an efficient energy sales strategy and optimization of the commercial portfolio.
I want to emphasize that 2025 was the best investment year for the company, which shows that we are delivering on our commitment to modernize the infrastructure, develop new capacities and strengthen Hidroelectrica's position. We continue to invest at an accelerated pace to ensure Romania's energy security and to generate sustainable value for our shareholders,” said Bogdan Badea, CEO of Hidroelectrica.
During 2025, Hidroelectrica continued to strengthen its position on the market, including through the development of its supply portfolio, with the number of consumption sites reaching 1.16 million, almost double the previous year, which confirms the attractiveness of the company's offers and consumer confidence in the company.
Hidroelectrica is the largest producer of renewable energy in Romania, managing a portfolio of 188 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 6.4 GW, as well as the Crucea wind farm, with 108 MW installed. The company also ranks first in the national ranking of electricity suppliers in terms of the size of its customer portfolio.
