Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, along with the Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Irineu Darău, will inaugurate on Monday, April 20, 2026, at NATO headquarters in Brussels, the event promoting the national industry of the sector, „Romania Industry Day.” Over 20 top Romanian companies have announced their participation in this event, according to a MAE statement.
The event, organized for the first time at NATO headquarters, constitutes a major step in Romania's economic diplomacy efforts. The central objective is to highlight the strategic relevance of the national defense industry for NATO's security architecture and to increase the profile of the defense and cybersecurity sector as potential suppliers for the Allies.
The economic context is an important one, considering that the Allies' total spending on essential defense requirements has exceeded, according to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's Annual Report, the threshold of $1.4 trillion annually.
The event is organized at the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, through the Permanent Delegation of Romania to NATO, benefiting from technical and logistical support from the Ministry of Economy, which also managed the selection process of participating companies.
„Romania Industry Day” includes high-level consultations with the leadership of the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) and the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). The purpose of these meetings is to identify concrete ways to integrate Romanian companies into the Alliance's future equipping and logistic support programs.
„We are part of the most powerful defensive Alliance in the world, NATO, and this means not only increased security but also opportunities to grow the economy. We established Romanian Industry Day at NATO headquarters to promote Romanian companies to become direct suppliers to the Alliance's structures, to access their niche in a specialized market worth over $1.4 trillion annually among allies, and to strengthen Romania's profile as a solid partner and security provider in preparation for the B9 Summit in Bucharest and the NATO Summit in Ankara.
”Romania's interests demand a revitalized economic diplomacy. In this government, we are building this type of diplomacy through coherent work for direct benefits to the national economy. Investments in advanced technologies, the creation of highly skilled jobs at home, in Romania, and the positioning of the cybersecurity component, for which there is already international demand and experience, are all part of the stakes of the event. This is the first, and others will follow.” declared Oana Țoiu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
„International economic opportunities must not be wasted, which is why the Ministry of Economy, alongside the Government, will support the promotion of key industries and the development of the defense industry. We assume the role of supporting both the private sector and state-owned companies prepared to develop production, meet demanding standards, innovate, and integrate sustainably into European and global production chains.„, a declarat Irineu Darău, ministrul Economiei, Digitalizării, Antreprenoriatului și Turismului.
Romania's participation in this inaugural edition was designed to reflect the sectors with the greatest potential for cooperation. Among the more than 20 confirmed economic operators are private and state-owned companies with solid portfolios in software development, secure communications, satellite systems, anti-drone technology, aeronautics, and cutting-edge weaponry.
„Romania Industry Day” represents an essential dialogue platform that facilitates the connection between NATO's operational requirements and the innovative solutions developed by Romanian industry, sending a strong signal of confidence to international investors and Romania's strategic partners. This edition will be followed by additional actions by the end of the year to promote relevant industries within allied countries, concludes the MAE press release.
