Romania is ready for 2026 to be the year of its official accession to the OECD, and to be on the other side of the table as a full member at the next economic assessment, Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare said on his Facebook page.

10 out of 10 at the OECD. Yesterday in Paris, we concluded a very important milestone for Romania's economic future: the evaluation session in the Economic and Development Review Committee (EDRC), where we presented Romania's progress in front of 38 representatives of the world's most developed economies. In parallel, the Ministry of Finance entered the home straight towards the finalization of the assessment in the Committee on Fiscal Affairs, with 10 out of 10 technical opinions adopted (the 10 subsidiary groups of the Committee on Fiscal Affairs that assessed Romania in the OECD accession process). The figures and the real structural changes we presented in Paris show that we are not looking for shortcuts to accession, but delivering real results

noted the minister on Wednesday, according to Agerpres.

Results, Alexandru Nazare cites above-target fiscal performance, record investments, full digitization of the tax office and stability.

„Fiscal performance above targets: We reported on progress in correcting the budget deficit and encouraging figures at the end of 2025 and beginning of 2026. The consistent adjustment achieved in the last 6 months shows that we are on the right path to consolidation, but we need to remain consistent to maintain the confidence we have gained. Record investment: We have managed to increase the level of public investment to 7.2%, as well as the share of European funds in this envelope. We have done this by accelerating investments from European funds, while at the same time reducing the budget deficit, which is a positive and sustainable result, also appreciated by international organizations”he said.

According to the head of the Ministry of Finance, the renegotiation of the PNRR has reduced the risk of losing European grant funds and secured resources for Romania's major projects in key areas such as transport, energy and health.

As for the full digitalization of the Tax Office, Nazare gives assurances that by the end of 2026, the ANAF Digital Hub will be fully operational.
